Anycast DNS now answers from eleven points of presence

Nov 27, 2025 JVNC Newsroom JVNC.NET

JVNC's resolver network has expanded to eleven anycast points of presence, adding capacity in Frankfurt, Tokyo and São Paulo. Median global resolution time has fallen to 9 milliseconds; the 99th percentile is 31 milliseconds.

All nodes run DNSSEC validation with aggressive negative caching, and every resolver is reachable over both IPv4 and IPv6 with no preference shown between the two.

Members who operate their own authoritative zones can publish to the cooperative's secondary service at no cost, gaining geographic redundancy without running a second name server.

Health checks probe each site every two seconds. A failed node is withdrawn from the anycast set automatically and restored only after a sustained green window of ten minutes.

01 About

JVNC is a non-profit cooperative running a low-latency research network, a distributed compute fabric and an identity layer for its member institutions.

We started in 1985 as the John von Neumann Computing Network — a handful of university sites sharing a single backbone. The ambition has not changed: make distant machines behave like nearby ones.

Today the cooperative carries science traffic between 380 institutions, operates its own optical layer, and publishes every measurement it makes.
